THE POLICE WERE JUST HERE.They found my stolen car in Corpus. It's been missing since just before Christmas. They tell me it's driveable. It's in the CCPD impound lot. Going to go check it now.

@drawandstrike Are you sure it’s STILL your car? If you accepted an insurance payment for loss, then they now own it. You may be allowed to visit THEIR car and collect any remaining personal items.

I just had to go down to the CCPD impound lot and sign a waiver so the insurance company can pick up the car for me. I wasn't able to see it, as only tow drivers and CCPD are allowed on the lot. Still no real idea what condition the car is in.

@drawandstrike The insurance company will need to have photos of it in order to either repair and resell it or to total it. You could ask them to provide you with photos for your records or ask them if they are going to continue on with a police investigation. If so, the police may be able to provide you with photos.

@drawandstrike Oh God - This happened to me when they found my stolen car. They declared it fixable. Took 6 weeks with a rental car before they finally put it on a lift and saw there was enough damage to total it. I had to badger State Farm as my rental period ran out. Next day they cut me a check and I bought a new car.

@Elaines2cents Ok it's complicated. I haven't seen the car yet. I drove to the impound lot, but since the car loan hasn't been paid off yet, the bank owns the car and the insurance company is handling the recovery of the car so they can assess any damage to it & determine the value.So all I could do was sign a waiver letting the insurance guy pick up the car.I didn't get to see it yet.

@drawandstrike You honestly may not want to.I had my 280Z stolen years ago. Campbell and San Jose PD had a high speed chase trying to arrest the kids that were joy riding in it. Ended up, there was a whole ring of these kids stealing high end cars, partying as they were joy riding around in them for a few days and then would dump them in one of the county malls.

@drawandstrike My car was 'driveable' but not something I wanted back. High end stereo and speakers cut out, look like they had a kegger party in the back hatch area, rims were gone. I was totally heartbroken.

@Elaines2cents @drawandstrike This reminds me of when I was hitchhiking through Michigan many moons ago when I was picked up by a car of kids on their way to Detroit. Soon they turned off into a county mall and were cruising the parking lot looking for a car to steal. They soon spotted a car identical to their own and made this plan: 1) Remove the stolen car’s license plate and replace it with their own.2) Replace their plate with one taken from a third car.1/2

@drawandstrike My husband’s car was stolen. We got a police call a month later. A 19 yr old Hispanic male was stopped by the cops. He ran, blew a stop sign & killed someone with our car. It was a very jarring call.

Every option imaginable was on that car.First brand new car I'd ever owned. I swore I'd never buy another new car ever. Took me almost 20 yrs before I bought another new card. @drawandstrike @Elaines2cents When we bought a truck in DFW a couple of years ago, we were offered gap ins. It basically is insurance to protect you if you are involved in a situation like you are or an auto accident in a new vehicle and it’s totaled out but you still owe in the remainder of the loan.
