In a recent update, the Raspberry Pi Foundation installed a Microsoft apt repository on all machines running Raspberry Pi OS without asking https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/lbu0t1/microsoft_repo_installed_on_all_raspberry_pis/

@angristan@mstdn.io IIRC, the did that to integrate VSCode. They could have used VSCodium on their depositories, but who care?

@angristan Many developers, including open source developers, love VScode even though it is miscrosoft behind . Here is the result

@mathdatech I do use and love vscode, but I don't see the point of adding this repo to every rpi user.

@angristan @Darks Raspbian is the n00b friendly spin, so their sane defaults aren't the common hackers.

@angristan I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Raspberry Pi OS, is in fact, VSCode/RasPi OS, or as I've recently taken to calling it, VSCode plus RasPi OS. RasPi OS is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another small component of an unnecessarily complicated VSCode system.
