Everyone surprised that OMG! there's been a military coup in Burma/Myanmar and are flocking to the defense of Aun San Suu Kyi, are both misinformed and not too bright.You'd do well to get informed before making stupid comparisons to the US or taking sides.

@Debradelai I think the real story here is that S.Gen Min Aung Hlaing rose rapidly with CCP support from 2011 onwards - CCP offered the Tatmadaw extensive material support against the ethnic militias and massive infrastructure spending on oil/gas sector. This power grab by a CCP ally is a first flex on the Biden admin, cementing the Burma/Laos/Cambodia irongrip. ASSK was such an icon of goodness that anyone boosted their image by being with her. And her cause needed any and all intl support, so.

@Debradelai SE Asian countries are basket cases. I lived through two coups in Thailand. They average one about every 8 years. The entire region is run by corrupt politicians, generals, and businessmen.

@Debradelai When I was in high school (10 years ago) one of my classes watched a Hollywood movie about the Burma military dictatorship.One scene had an Aun San Suu Kyi imitator, walking serenely with a crowd of protesters and being worshipped like she's Jesus.Turns out, she ain't no Jesus.
