@oystergirl I have seen "Them". That is an A-list movie. This one looks like one of those low-rent 1950s sci-fi movies that cost about twenty dollars to make and were shown on double bills.Always worth seeing

@timr @oystergirl @darulharb @HectorHeathcote @Doveydoo 1967. I was seven when I saw The Time Machine. We were at the Gohagen's farmhouse in rural Ohio. Dad borrowed the film and a projector from the school where he taught. Kid were forbidden to watch. I secretly watched from the veranda, peering in through the open window from behind the curtains.NIGHTMARES!The sound of my own heartbeat kept me awake. It reminded me of the incessant whumping of the Morlocks' underground generators.

They sold creature ‘claws’ and flippers, so of course I had to buy when my kids were younger. Gotta get them used to the classics at a young age...my daughter is still a TCM fan watching movies from the 30’s 😉

@StevenDouglas @barrsniffsatjejuneanalysis @timr @oystergirl @darulharb @HectorHeathcote @Doveydoo I saw the sci-fi classics on Chiller Theater. I’ve probably seen The Blob about 5 times. I think I need to watch “X” again. I remember it scared me, but I don’t recall the plot. Other movies like The Time Machine were broadcast on ABC New York’s 3:30 p.m. movie. If you were a kid born during the 60s they had theme weeks like Gidget. Boomer entertainment pre internet.

@timr @Doveydoo @oystergirl It starts with a therapist session (the real world presumably), and then it devolves into a waking nightmare. I actually have it on a CD. I think it is fair to say that the dividing line between sci fi and horror in that period (60s, 70s modern horror) not the Vincent Price, Peter Cushing type was that the horror stories were non-linear. Once the protagonist becomes entangled in the miasma they keep batting it away with no success. Dickens was kinder to Scrooge.
