Bisq is barely runnable on a mobile Gen 8 i7 with 16GB of RAM. Who even uses this?

@eatoutfrom5lbs I've been using bisq for years (yes, years) and it's vastly improved in it's use of resources - especially in the last 6 months. Are you using an older version? I have 0 issues using it on a 5 year old windows comp and even older ubuntu comp.

@GrandVizierOfMalta I just tried to run it on a Gen 8 i7 with 16GB RAM in Qubes, and it was unusable. Literally 10 second delays to register clicks.Next tried a MacBook with similar specs, and, while better, it was still extremely slow.

@GrandVizierOfMalta the premiums are insane! I get 6% at a local Bitcoin ATM that only requires a phone 2FA. 6% is the low side of Bisq for the bank transfer options available to me.

@eatoutfrom5lbs Check out their support channel on Keybase. They're super helpful there and might be able to give you some ideas/help/more info.

@eatoutfrom5lbs Absolutely. If I see (only) a 6% premium, I grab that offer asap. 😂 Obviously that depends on the market demands. Some of the larger markets are much better. That's why I like to mention bisq as much as possible...hoping to get more people using it and eventually have it reach a critical mass.

@eatoutfrom5lbs BTW, I've also had ppl take my offers (to convert my fiat to btc) at 0% or even better premium. I've also bought plenty at 0%. So really it just seems to depend on the timing of the market.

@Ben Unfortunatley, even following their Qubes guide, I can't get Bisq in a runnable state on my daily driver.

@eatoutfrom5lbs Hm, first time it was loading a lot of their DAO stuff but idk it might just not be optimized enough. Even though, it shouldn't be that slow.

@Ben it is a rather exotic OS. But I've never had issues running an application on it before.

@Ben okay I’ve changed some settings (different kernel, not pushing it through a VPN, etc...) and it seems to be running a lot more smoothly than my first attempt. I have a supremely ignorant question — most of the offers available to me are by Zelle. Doesn’t Zelle just kind of already assume KYC has been done, and aren’t I leaking pretty obvious bitcoin provenance information for banks to analyze, if they wanted to?

@Ben @eatoutfrom5lbs Yeah, really depends on what market you're in and of course can change daily.

@Ben @GrandVizierOfMalta so how does a bank transfer work? You just login to your online banking account and perform an ACH transfer? Or is this done with a teller?

@eatoutfrom5lbs @Ben Whatever method you choose in your bisq order. Depends on what country you're in and what's available to you. So, yes, if ACH works for you, you can either create or take an ACH offer. If you prefer another method, if it's available in your market, it's on bisq. (ie: money order, direct deposit to bank account, face to face, etc.).

@eatoutfrom5lbs @GrandVizierOfMalta ACH works (online) or SEPA in europe. Basically anything that gets money to the other guy who then confirms it arrived.

@Ben @GrandVizierOfMalta okay, so if the other guy is selling bitcoin without a money transfer license, and he gets investigated and popped, now my bank account is basically associated with him? It doesn't make sense for me to do this. I have 6% Bitcoin ATM's that only need a phone number (burner). I don't even have to coinjoin, because it's just a cash purchase with no KYC or even an ID check.

@eatoutfrom5lbs @Ben Yeah, if that's a concern for you & you're more comfortable using the btc atm's, go for it. They're few and far between around here. Whatever it takes to stack KYC-free sats.

@eatoutfrom5lbs @GrandVizierOfMalta You need a license? I don't know American law. But yeah if you have no KYC ATMs those are probably better. There are none here.

@Ben @GrandVizierOfMalta If you're regularly selling, such that the volume is not insigificant, yes, you need a money transfer license. I used to live in a city where there was a maker space run by a really shady dude who was selling bitcoin out of there (off-the-books) as "educational service". He ended up raided by like three different federal agencies -- he probably still wading through all the legal troubles he created for himself.
