LBRY is a very decentralized solution technically being just a massive blackchain public hash table. Sure the front end affects how people interact with that and what is viewable. @charliebrownau @Philoxenus Bro, the entire point of the streams to begin with was to take the content from the forum and rehash it into something that was friendly enough to exist on larger platforms so I could in some way generate income for the site and myself.Trying to keep the site up is a full time job, now on top of that I have to juggle a dozen different services trying to find a profitable way to exploit the podcast. The only reason I even do the podcast now is that it's a good way to get people paying attention to the problems the site faces and spread the word about things which do work.I could of course set up a fucking shithole streaming service using open source RMTP and then I could talk to myself while spending money for the privilege to do so. That's pointless.

Even if someone has enough capital to self host a streaming site with enough bandwidth to support thousands of viewers - they're just as weak to being shut down as any business website (there's effectively no difference). All Mr Glowie has to do is bust down the door, yank the cord and it's over. I saw 2 gold coin shops in #tbay but both were closed literally every time I was by them. In the entire time I lived there I never got the chance to buy a gold coin once. And since moving back to yxe I have yet to see any gold coins for sale anywhere - and now I'm staying home so there's no coins here

Trovo was a clone of Twitch with a replacement for Bits plus some virtual currency gambling.None of them think they have to solve the big issues that face each one, like what happens when you get gray area content, or the legal system being different between viewer countries, or the "need" to censor because your upstream provider threatens to cut you off the Internet. None of them got into the business to solve those things differently, they just wanted Twitch minus the thots, or YouTube plus polls and crypto.Every successful business has copycats. But usually the copycats are smart enough to compete in a niche (such as edgy content), instead of trying to compete head-on without a reason why people should switch to a clone (Trovo does nothing better than Twitch right now).
