@Tommyetw Sean Connery suffered from chronic laryngitis, so when he lost his voice, he carried around a small notebook. If someone asked him a question, he'd write, "Sorry, I can't speak right now" and give it to the person. He'd learned to never write "Sorry, I have laryngitis" because nobody knew what it meant. He said that EVERY SINGLE TIME HE GAVE THEM THE NOTEBOOK, people would write, "Why can't you speak?" on the page and give it back to him.

@ThomasWic That's hilarious. He's damned either way. I'm just south of you in OC, so we have to suffer these fools here. I told my wife I may go into hermit mode if this continues.Last week I took my pretty deaf father (who'll never admit it) to the eye doctor. She'd talk to him, he'd look lost and look at me, and I'd just pretend I understood and tell him what I thought the doctor said. Good enough. Talking is overrated.

@ThomasWic @Tommyetw I know I wouldn't have done that... because I would not have asked another question and would have respected his right to silence.

@sapienthetero @ThomasWic @Tommyetw Hi. I’m deaf since birth. I wear a CI and I sympathize with you. Masks are the bane of my existence. I’ve learned that people either “get it” when talking to the deaf, or they don’t. There’s a wonderful organization called ALDA that is geared toward people will hearing loss later in life. Dm for more information.

@RockyRoad @sapienthetero @ThomasWic thank you! I will! Does the CI make it sound like natural hearing, though you may not have a reference point.😊

@Tommyetw @sapienthetero @ThomasWic I’ve worn hearing aids for 40 years so I do have a reference point. The answer is that the sounds are different. Hearing aid simply amplifies the sounds. The CI is computerized and designed for speech. I can hear bass in hearing aids and high pitch in CI, but no bass in CI. So music sucks with CI. It’s really designed for speech. The CI technology has advanced by leaps and bounds.
