Does anyone have any experience setting up Element & Matrix? That shit is hard as fuck to install even with Ansible 🤔

@emperor Element no, Matrix via Ansible yes. I spun the server down just a few days ago and there are a ton of problems with this role, but https://git.desu.ltd/salt/ansible/src/commit/d8a58339565ddfeb99c31fbd286326736e6079a7/roles/matrix might have what you're after.Element should be as simple as untarring a release somewhere, templating out a config, and pointing a webserver at it. Integrations are a different story.

@salt Huh, okay; so is Element pretty easy to install once Matrix is already setup? Assuming you’re using it, of course.

@emperor I don't understand -- it's a client, just download and use it, there is nothing to set up there. Unless you want to "set up" a server, there is not much to do.

@emperor Yeah, it's just a little webapp. I ended up using the Electron version, but the setup docs for Element Web don't even mention connecting it to a DB. Should be real easy to deploy.

@tusooa I misunderstood the question, yes; I’m trying to setup a server.

@emperor Of course if you want to use something other than Synapse, that's another question.

@emperor Try this for PC browser ... click in Edit and put your server (matrix)https://element.privacytools.io/#/login

@emperor It's easier to setup than many other pieces of software I run on my servers ^^' (just installed it from the repo or AUR in a container and followed the configuration instructions from the docu for Synapse. Element is just a static web page you can host without any external dependencies apart from a webserver)

@emperor Also O don't see how ansible would make *anything* easier to install :P

@salt I’ll ask one more question and then I’ll leave you alone, approximately how much memory does Matrix & Element tend to take up, on idle and on load?

@emperor NO worries! Load depends on the size of the userbase; my single-user instance hardly took up 100M idle. I never really put it under strenuous load, but if it's just for you and a couple friends, it'll probably be pretty cheap.Element being what it is will probably consume next to nothing; your webserver serves static content to the client and the browser does all of the heavy lifting. Be sure and read the installation guide to make sure you've got fairly aggressive cache control set up.Feel free to hit me up if you've got Ansible questions, too!

@emperor Yes, though I never used Ansible for it... Took me a few moments (like 10 or so minutes) with Docker-stack-compose tho...

@finlaydag33k Little bit late, but could you give me a link for that? I tried searching but the only repo I could find was from two years ago.
