hey uhh, i thought this shouldnt have to be said but unless the person outright says the opposite, uhhh dont confirm/validate/say a psychotic person's delusions were correct or right or real???? again, unless they say please tell me this, they might not be into the whole "yes your delusions are right and you live in this fake world" and that might lead them deeper into their delusions which is not good???????????????????

@raphael In the spirit of reversing all the advice you hear: just because you don't understand somebody's experience, that doesn't mean it's a psychotic delusion (even if the person in question suffers from psychotic delusions); if something's in the “no, that can't possibly be real” category but not the “that's not real” category, consider *not* trying to emphatically deny it – especially if you don't know the person well.

@wizzwizz4 that is a good point, however the context of my post was if you know the person you're speaking to experiences psychosis and delusions AND they don't say that they would like their delusions to be affirmed. you shouldnt assume things of anyone at all about anything, related or not. as someone who is #actuallypsychotic this, it's less so denying my "reality" and more so keeping me safe. Do you value my delusions over my safety? this post was not to tell people "tell psychotic people that their delusions are wrong and bad and shame them" but rather help them in the way they feel comfortable. like i said, if they want to be affirmed, then thats for them. otherwise, dont assume.

@raphael Oh, yeah, absolutely. It's just some people will hear that and go “psychotic people can't be gay”, or some other nonsense. I see that it wasn't a useful thing to write; thanks for letting me know.

Don't listen to them, @wizzwizz4. You are entitled to your view. 😊

@Hyolobrika ? They were right, though; it was completely unuseful. (As was you posting this.)

@Hyolobrika If you're thinking this is about free speech, then it kinda was: I wrote something that detracted from somebody else's message. People got upset, so I thought harder about it, and realised that I wasn't helping, and removed it – out of respect for the messages of others.Nobody was *making* me do anything. Yeah, it was considered a social faux-pas, but so would throwing gravel at strangers' faces be; it isn't one of the arbitrary social mores one should rail against.
