@RUSHIFA norway used to think swedes were a bit strange for using snus. the danes still smoke, but norway had a few people who used snus, so there was some precedent for it. sweden is the only EU country where it isn't banned.

@RUSHIFA @RoyUnderhill btw, one type of snus that is becoming popular now is basically just salt and nicotine in a small pouch. no tobacco. the salt is necessary to help absorb the nicotine. in addition to the salt, there is usually some kind of flavour.

@thor @RUSHIFA Really? Don't tell that to people from Japan or Italy ... but also the quality of life of aging people counts. Now a lot of people survives a cancer but that is not going to improve their quality of life.BTW I always liked the kick of nicotine, even if I never was a big smoker. I switched to vaping a few years ago, I used to make my own liquid, mostly VG with some PG and a lot of nicotine ... I started with a very high amount of nicotine and eventually tapered down.

@erm67 @RUSHIFA we are above the EU average, well above the US. below some countries too, but given how many industrialised countries there are, it's pretty good. in any case, i didn't look at scientific reports. a person who has fairly trust in matters of cancer said that we're on par with other industrialised countries in terms of cancer if life expectancy is taken into account, which i have no reason to doubt is true. as for cancer rates in Japan when life expectancy is taken into account, i don't have information on that, but i expect they're above par in that respect. all i'm saying is that the cancer figures for countries with long life expectancies are going to be misleading. now, since the original topic was whether snus gives you more cancer or not, i believe i have proven that, whatever impact snus makes on cancer statistics, it's not significant enough to affect overall cancer rates.
