@Facile @Vikingo I do believe a user on an instance has to follow at least one user on another instance, for messages between them to propagate. Not 100% sure and based of old knowledge though ...

@Facile @timp @Vikingo I think @captainmorgan posted a handy image about how content flows into the federated tab, but my understanding is, yes, users on the local instance have to be following users on remote instances for that remote instance content to feed into the federated view. bitcoinhackers.org has over 10k users. Guaranteed some of them are following porn instances.My instance has 32 users, and I haven't seen a pixel of porn in the federated.

@Vikingo federated includes the instances you';re on, but you can set it so it shows remote content only so you dont get double posts

@Facile @timp @Vikingo @captainmorgan another way for content to flow into the federated is to subscribe to a relay. The relay helps smaller instances to discover content from other instances connected to the relay.
