@Debradelai I ll preface this with, I'm NOT nearly as good at politics as many of you, BUT.. in my area, in 2016 at the local level, there were SIX people vying for supervisor. the top 2 candidates got over 30% each of the votes, the other 4 candidates (combined) took approx 28% of the votes. again, Im no expert, but if that happened in the presidential race via a third party, seems like 28% less votes could make or break a candidate. therefore, Im not liking the third party idea.

@Debradelai Minor parties have a role in Westminster systems where coalition governments are possible. They can also have a place in systems where STV/MMP/etc. voting exists. The USA has a FPP (First Past the Post) voting system and a form of government that does not permit coalitions to determine the Presidency. In this system a third party is only capable of acting as spoiler (Perot).
