I guess window managers don't have much need for updates. The latest stable XMonad was released in 2018, and the latest stable Fluxbox was released in 2015. Should using these be a security concern?

@pell No, it's literally just a thing that tiles windows. What is there to update?

@person @pell I'm sure they would get a security update in case something was found, I don't see how it would be a problem either.

@sotolf @person That's what I was thinking, but I'm also more comfortable with active development. I'm also looking at I3 and IceWM, which both have recent updates.

@pell @sotolf @person At the moment I am more concerned about xorg security than any window manager. I know Wayland is from fucking Red Hat but I think all of those WM and DE should have migrated long time ago. The problem, xorg used to do everything and now in Wayland almost everything has been left to client side.

@jrballesteros05 @pell @person Yeah, it's just that to be able to make something run on wayland being a window-manager isn't enough, you have to be a compositor as well, and from what I have understood many of the APIs are still in flux, which makes it a really big task.

@pell You shouldn't be. If they find anything they'll just patch it, hopefully, unless they officially abandoned the project. :)

@sotolf @jrballesteros05 @person I use Debian, which defaults to Wayland. But I use the alternate X11 login, because Wayland doesn't work for some of the things I do. Maybe it's because I have an older graphics card.

@pell @sotolf @person I don't know what card you have but if you use proprietary Nvidia driver it won't work on Wayland properly even if you have a new card. Wayland also lacks in some features, for example Sharing screen is still on testing, I have to do a lot of stuff to make it work on Sway for example.

@sotolf @jrballesteros05 @person Just to clarify, Gnome is the default desktop environment in Debian, and Gnome defaults to Wayland.

@pell @jrballesteros05 @person Yeah, it has been about 15 years or so since I really used Gnome heavily, I used to, but fell up when they went over to gnome 3 and I didn't really get along with their more mobile-phone like interface.
