@daum3ns It is the same as Mongodb. The main difference between the open source and free/libre software is the last one try to care about ethics. I haven't found a company with ethics principles, mostly are pirates when they can. I don't know if it's something related to capitalism or whatever but I have seen how many companies do very questionable commercial practices only for getting money. Elastic and Amazon do know what open source is but they don't know anything about ethics.

@daum3ns so what is my point? I have never considered elastic as open source, I think it was more open core. Releasing Kibana without authentication was an example of that, they have just done relatively recently because many companies who used the free version received attacks and that wasn't good for the elastic branch. When Amazon forked elastic it seems they didn't like but in this case Amazon didn't do anything wrong in my opinion. About Amazon nothing to say is fucking Amazon.

@jrballesteros05 yes this is a problem i agree! many "opensource" companies don't care about the ethics... the naming seemed to be one problem.. like amazon <trademark> service .... i think its correct that they should not do that, specially when not coordinated with the trademark owner.. but yeah.. fuck trademarks and amazon :D

@daum3ns I dare to say open source itself does not care about the ethics. Open source care more about technical stuffs and that's why I always like to point the difference between Libre/Free software and open source because libre software do care, at least in theory, about ethics. That's why companies prefer open source than libre software because they don't give a shit about ethics.
