Last time I used Mastodon's migration tool, I lost all my followers. All it did is lock me out of my account.If someone could help me with that, that'd be nice.

@verretor i am having difficulty getting bitcoinhackers.org to see the alias that I set up at thecitadel.social. When you set up the alias at himk.am, can you let me know if you experience similar difficulties?

@pete I switched from mastodon.social to bitconhackers.org in 2018. There's a migration tool in the account options. It only linked to my new account on my old account.

@verretor I think you have to do it on both your old and new accounts. Basically, old forwards to new, and new verifies that the old->new link is correct.

@melik @verretor @pete @btcdragonlord I've just gone through this process. First you need to add the old account as an account alias from the new account. Then from the old account follow the option under "Move to a different account"On both accounts this is all in Preferences > Account, at the bottom of the pageAll my followers have been transferred to the new account 👍

@verretor I follow quite a few accounts that migrated without me re-following. If you have doubts, then verifying it with a dummy account is easy as pie. No need to speculate.

@raucao I lost all my followers when I migrated from mastodon.social to bitcoinhackers.org. The only thing the migrating tool did was lock my account and tell people to go to my new account.

@verretor @raucao 'migration' is just sending out an activity to all servers that you just migrated. if they don't understand that activity, they won't 'migrate' your followers. because of that, migration doesn't really work completely, but should kinda sorta start working better over time.

@raucao @lain @verretor Can confirm it worked for me. Moved from mastodon.social to bitcoinhackers two days ago. On the new instance create the alias to your old account. On the old instance use the migrate not the redirect option. This only migrates followers. To migrate anything else you can use the import export function.
