Lightning is one of the most frustrating technologies out there.Wallets forcing invoices to have amounts and expiry while not letting you choose either of those values just show how no one actually uses it.

@nvk the devs don’t live in that reality. But they better get with it. At $100k fees are gonna push ppl off the mainchain. And they still have to compete with RSK, Liquid and shitcoins.

@nvk I agree. I've been running nodes and been in Bitcoin for a decade and I still haven't really been able to use the LN. I have numerous wallets that have dust that cant be spent. I'm assuming this will get better over time though as wallets mature.

@nvk for the past year or so I have been using Breez wallet to pay my phone bill, vpn, netflix, electronics, bread and whatnot with LN. Zero issues.

@nvk Which software is that? lnd, Eclair, and Pheonix all let you create invoices without amounts. lnd also lets you set the expiry time easily.

@nvk Yup, just checked: BlueWallet does require you to set an amount. No way to set the expiry, which defaults to 1 day. Even turning on advanced mode doesn't help.

@nvk That's like criticizing Bitcoin based on Coinbase's user interfaces. BlueWallet is a UI for a custodial, hosted wallet.

@nvk Be that as it may (for whatever reason you don't want to actually use LN directly is irrelevant here), the deficiency of your custodial wallet is not a deficiency of the technology of Lightning Network.

@nvk try wallets dedicated to the lightning experience, instead of custodial solutions.

@nvk amount-less invoices have long been insecure. That's probably why few give the ability. However it has been addressed, and latest lnd will enforce the new rules (feature bit 14/15).FWIW BlueWallet, Phoenix and Blixt Wallet (for which am the dev for) all give the ability to do amount-less invoices.Manually setting the expiry is a good suggestion!

@hampus Cool! I'm trying on Blue, no option to ignore the amount or remove the expiry.

@pete @nvk This is exactly why I chose to build @Toxicity in such a way to connect to web server running on your node (RTL, Spectre, Block Explorer, etc).Implementing all of the functionality for LN/Core + UI/UX takes a massive amount of work (work that is already being done by web projects). Why reinvent the wheel when I can simply facilitate a connection over Tor with v3 auth, and ensure user data (connection info) is secure _AF_.

@nvk I see. Yes I remembered it wrong regarding BlueWallet.
