@mike Possibly, until you try and remove a symlink and end up deleting the files inside the dest dir.(I did have a backup, thankfully)

@sirvertalot I've never done that, but I have had a folder selected when I hit the delete button that had too many files to go into the Recycling Bin (Windows something at the time) that cost me GB of data with no backups. After that I only ever put shortcuts on my desktop, never the actual stuff.

@mike But somehow not on windos. I swear, I tried at least two times to switch to cmd/powershell for file managing. On Linux I'm fine with terminal (most of the time).

@mikeI do like my gui filemanagers or a file manger like ranger that runs in the terrminal, but i have to agree, just cd comands and that hole package gets you really quite far, and when all the gui file mangers don't wanna coperait for sone reason, the terminal is alwayd there and willing to help

@mike Sometimes that only reason to open up a graphical file manager is for the unarchiving feature because hell no, I won't learn every command for every archival file type.Although, I should.

@rebel_luddite Hmm, it's never been a problem, but then I work with almost exclusively .tar.gz or .zip, and it's easy to remember how to deal with those two. Especially since I'm usually using Linux on a remote host and a GUI isn't even an option in that case without SFTPing the file to my desktop, uncompressing it, and then SFTPing all the files back. That's a much, MUCH worse option.

@bredlof Hm, I haven't done that in a GUI for years. I usually just inline some bash code really quick. GUI is probably easier in that case though.

@mike Hah, those are the exact two I don't have a problem with. I think they are as universal as they get.I was looking around my files to try to find an example, but I don't have them anymore.Anyways, it is a trifle. I will force myself to look up the filetype next time and learn to properly manipulate it.

@sanchez Honestly, WSL has really helped me in situations like that. Can't use the DOS anymore, but that still bridges the gap enough for me to still use it.

@mike That's why I use Dophin with the terminal enabled. So I can easily jump from the terminal to the GUI and vice-versa.

@sanchez I probably use it in the worst way it could be used. I do use it for file management and some other small things, but it's been the best terminal app for me. I just don't like other apps in Windows. I used to use PuTTY, but I just found I liked WSL better. That's a horribly stupid thing to use WSL for, but it works for me.
