The forum will be down until Monday. Until then, this Pleroma instance is up, and the guys who run movie night on Lolcow TV are watching movies all weekend.https://lolcow.tv/r/autismAt 1am CET on Sunday, the site went offline and was unreachable. It was determined that the motherboard's built-in NIC had failed, and the ethernet ports no longer properly networked the device. It was fully functional, but could not connect to the Internet or other machines on the network.The datacenter does not have a spare NIC and everything is closed because it's the weekend. I'm overnighting a new NIC, but it won't arrive until sometime tomorrow during US Pacific business hours.I am extremely unhappy about this and am going over my options for dealing with server failure in the future. I consider this downtime completely unacceptable, especially on new hardware. A community this size should have a second server to fall back on, but in our situation, everything is unusually expensive, and I don't think we can afford it.I'm looking for a colocation company in Asia Pacific (i.e. SG / TW / HK / JP) that doesn't give a single fuck and can do BGP. @josh It’s kinda crazy to me that you don’t have everything virtualized with high availability failover setup. Is it just a problem of software licensing cost? What does the resource consumption look like? I figured a site like yours would be on at least a 3 node cluster with load balancing up front in case a host bit the dust. I guess working in enterprise environments has spoiled me, not everyone can afford to avoid single points of failure :(

@Kircheis @josh I expect that’s too expensive for Josh to set up, or else he’d have already done it. A 3-node cluster is 3 times as expensive as one server. Having said that, Josh — how much would a second server cost? I can probably help with at least some of it.

@josh I hope the NIC being delivered isn't intercepted by NSA. I find the timing of this failure extremely suspicious. It's possible all NICs have built in burnout functionality secretly mandated by government where it self destructs if it reads a specific 512-bit sequence.This would then require a replacement NIC to be delivered which they can intercept and bug during delivery. It is exactly the part I would want to bug if I was NSA because it would give me IPs and be undetectable by the OS/Sysadmin.Maybe you should screw up their plans and get a trusted friend to send a different NIC to replace this one so there's no link to you or the server directly?

@Auraculum @josh My understanding is that two things are going in in this instance:- A default was entered on the defendant before the court looked at the complaint; in previous lawsuits, the complaint was thrown out before the defendant ever became aware of it.- In at least some (perhaps all) jurisdictions in the United States, impoverished plaintiffs are permitted to file "in forma pauperis," which means they are permitted to sue without paying the court costs and filing fees. Generally they need permission to do this, by my understanding.

This is how that crazy slut managed to lose several suits without nool even being served in the past. Somehow this idiot judge managed to ignore the lack of service of process, even though the dumb bitch literally left the court the case was filed in blank. Apparently everyone in this particular court is asleep at the wheel.
