Which is better, #PLEX optimization, or #Handbrake transcodes?

@realcaseyrollins I am looking for an open source alternative to #PLEX. Did your searches ultimately boil down to Handbrake or PLEX?

@Glowie No not really.#Jellyfin is the best known FOSS alternative to #PLEX I’m just saying both can transcode and IDK which is better at it

@realcaseyrollins Thanks for the suggestion of JellyFin!( I still hope Streama ramps up development, since that looks like what I need. Their lack of transcoding is... meh. 😞 )

@Glowie Yeah…I’m starting to think that transcoding prior to use so it’s just direct playing whatever version you need is the move. It’s what I’m doing since I’m moving away from the home machine and to an RPi to host #PLEX

@realcaseyrollins Exactly this. You don't want to manually transcode an existing collection of MKV files, figure out what you want to do with audio and subtitles if the media is (for example) weebshit. While I would like to give the Open Source options a chance, with PLEX available making a choice makes it kinda hard. :-(
