@dsmatthews I mean, admittedly, gmail is pretty good at stopping spam. But so is my postfix+spamassassin+greylisting setup I've had for years, without any attention, so maybe spam isn't all that hard...

@kimisan My spotify is a git-annex archive of MP3s, and mocp. Legally bought MP3s too, seriously.(it helps that IDM artists pretty much all sell their stuff on bandcamp...)

@pete It shouldn't be hard and sure bespoke systems work well for IT literate people, but if they really were doing a good job why are there so many fraud cases that are based on initial email contacts? Furthermore if there was no point to sending spam people would not do it in the massive volumes that they still do. 🤷♂️

@dsmatthews It's probably a numbers game: I know ~99% of spam/fraud emails are getting stopped. But that still leaves 1%Not enough to be annoying for me. But some people might still fall for them.

@pete Yeah the "lonely hearts" type victims of confidence tricksters and "Nigerian Princes" etc. Then there are the ones that get suckered into acting as a mule for money laundering operations. There is a whole lot of suffering and financial damage going on there. The thing is that they use tactics that have very clear patterns so why can't they get nabbed by AI systems 100% of the time?
