@drawandstrike AWS is the largest data center provider in the world. They have incredibly lock-in with their services. It's literally the worst fucking platform to build your startup on and people keep doing it because they're fucking retarded. The last two shops I've worked at have spent millions trying to get off AWS and back onto private data centers in order to save money.

I manage a 40k endpoint hospital as well as the 4th largest county in the US. If we didn’t build our solutions with BC/DR (business continuity / disaster recovery) we would be out of biz. If we didn’t have alternative circuit paths (if WIN goes down... go to ATT), we wouldn’t meet our SLA’s.

@drawandstrike A lot of companies outsource their server hosting & management to 3rd parties because it lets them focus on their core business mission.There are only a handful of companies that run clouds & there are probably good business reasons for Parler having chose AWS to begin with.They might have believed the contract signed with Amazon would protect against this activist nonsense, but that assumes a reasonable belief in the rule of law, or at least contract law.
