The reason otherwise good movies fail is that they subvert the three-act format.No Country for Old Men, for example.The story itself didn't matter. It was all about the Cohen brothers showing off their alleged brilliance.In reality, the most poorly written character was Anton Chigurh, who made no sense.He was supposed to represent the mysteries of life itself. Pure chance.As a result, this unstoppable killer was absolutely unconvincing.

It's just a job to him.You can't talk him out of it, reason with him, bribe him.NOTHING.In today's movies, everybody chews the scenery. They're cartoon characters.It's entertaining to lots of people, but in the end, the movies sink into obscurity.In order to subvert all the audience's expectations, the Cohen brothers made a movie that just peters out.It's too confusing, and the only engaging characters are killed or just walk away.

That's why the movie failed.It was all about the Cohen brothers, not the story.The BEST stories have long second acts.Trump knows this.That's why HIS second act took up virtually the entire story of his first term.Gotta admit: The entire world is waiting to see what happens next.AND.When the protagonist turns it all around with sheer brilliance and courage, he wins over virtually the entire audience.We all love heroes.

The best characters arouse emotion in the reader or audience.Trump's character creates intense emotion in EVERYBODY, a brilliant achievement. @ThomasWic No Country for Old Men was THE WORST movie ever made...God I hated that flick. The only thing that could be worse than watching that utter crap would be reading KAFKA.Watched it at a hotel in NY when it came out and I swear it cut from one major scene to the end of the scene with NOTHING about what happened. We both thought we fell asleep but I'm pretty sure we didn't.I never watched it again to find out...I'd rather have a root canal.
