@oleg He already bashes Facebook and Twitter on a daily basis. He's ready for Fosstodon alright... if he makes it through the code of conduct, that is.

@hurtado For me that indicates that #federated networks are also far from being perfect. A couple of weeks ago one of my toot has been deleted because of a #CW #violation. That made me doubt the reliability of #mastodon. Because let's be direct, every assessment is subjective, and together with constantly changing rules assessment approaches put us in a situation that prevents us from real #freedom of self-expression.

@oleg Yeah, but also Fosstodon has rather strict ToS, including their CW rules; and that's their choice. There are other instances with more lenient ToS that we can pick, or we can even host our own instance with our own rules. Besides, it's way easier and efficient to moderate a small instance.

@hurtado Sure, but, what about the risk for an instance to be banned from the network?

@oleg They can still use Mastodon to create their own separate network. I'm not sure if that'd be good or bad. I think that's a debate worth having. In any case, even Fosstodon federates toots from some free speech extremist instances. I'm guessing the new instances would have to make a real effort to be completely isolated.

@hurtado Thanks! Interesting! I see federated networks are still centralised on the user level. I'm just trying to figure out the real possibilities for pure p2p-microblogging that could use Tor-network, as a transport layer.

@oleg Wow, that's lot! I'm not tech-savvy, so I'm sorry if I'm spouting nonsense, but how can you manage discoverability in a p2p platform?

@olegAn instance can't be "banned from the network" (other than taking the server down), it can be banned by other instances though. By signing up for a specific instance, users chose not only what rules they want to abide by themselves, but also what content they want to be confronted with. 1/2 @hurtado
