@Debradelai The side I was on was relatively calm until the majority of people that marched from the Ellipse. The police moved the metal barriers and let the parade of people walk through.They then blocked the steps only to very quickly allow people to make their way up the steps and onto the balcony. The remaining people, that had been there before the large influx of people arrived, then made their way through the barricades.By their actions (the police) wanted this to happen.

@Debradelai that building is very well guarded since the shooting of 2 capitol police officers in July, 1998. Metal detectors, closed off entryways, and lots of police officers.
