I'm not sure if anyone else did this before so I just went ahead and did it: I've curated a list of alternative frontends to popular websites, like #Invidious, #Nitter, #Searx, #Bibliogram, etc.https://tilde.town/~kzimmermann/articles/alternative-frontends.htmlI'm also including a "browserless alternative" whenever possible (i.e. youtube-dl for YouTube, etc)Do you know any other besides the ones listed?

@kzimmermann What about youtube-viewer? I am using its GTK version (gtk-youtube-viewer). Was recently in the news for getting their github repo blocked (and unblocked again): https://github.com/trizen/youtube-viewer

@kzimmermann For Twitch (and other live stream services) one could use Streamlink. Haven't been able to use it yet because I could not get it to compile on MX Linux 18.3 (has conflicting dependencies), but still looks promising: https://streamlink.github.io/Official description: "Streamlink is a command-line utility which pipes video streams from various services into a video player, such as VLC. @ginsterbusch great contribution! I didn't know about it, frankly haven't used many other viewers other than mpv for this matter, but this one looks quite complete.

@kzimmermann in gtk-youtube, you can not only use a plethoria of different viewing frontends, eg. mpv, vlc or mplayer, but also add your own. I've written a short tutorial about that in the past: https://wp-devil.com/gtk-youtube-viewer-using-totem-instead-of-the-default-players/

@kzimmermann For Facebook Messenger (and others), I've been using Pidgin + the facebook-purple plugin for ancient times, until it semi-broke (most of the time it doesnt connect anymore). As a work-around, I stumbled upon Caprine: https://sindresorhus.com/caprine/

@kzimmermann I am self-hosting my own front-end to google translate https://translate.metalune.xyz, maybe you want to consider adding it to the list, it's very early in development but the basic features are usable already

@cordpot wow, this is an amazing project! Feels much better than other invidious instances.I wonder if there are other instances online of it, though. Project page does not state it, I think...?

@ginsterbusch interesting, I'm not on Facebook but looks like a decent-looking application.I wonder if libpurple can connect any other of these messengers even today... back in 2010-2012 that was the bomb!

@metalune this is amazing! Even if this is in the early stages the idea is pretty good, and works better than other "implemented from zero" translation platforms. Thanks for sharing, and hope your project gets better!

@cordpot hey this is pretty good! I'm gonna add it to the list too. I still prefer teddit with the "classic" interface, but anything that filters out the crap and presents the content without javascript is of great help
