Merkel signs a German-China Trade Deal. And in the process gives the US - and the UK - the bird.I've spoken with numerous people in the know who confirm that the Trump administration no longer considers Germany to be a reliable ally of the United States. Some go even further and describe Germany as a strategic opponent. Now you can see why. One problem for Merkel - too arrogant by half, she assumes a Biden Presidency. The Chancellor would have been wise to wait. https://www.politico.eu/article/germanys-drive-for-eu-china-deal-draws-criticism-from-other-eu-countries/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

@Debradelai @REX From a scientific standpoint, the Europeans are a far more serious adversary. Though they have yet to entirely recover from the huge block party they threw between 1939 and 1945, they have a far better system than China, and have quietly become world leaders in several highly significant scientific fields. The good news is that continental Europe remains a bag of scruffy cats, and there is a not insubstantial chance that they will implode before becoming a serious threat.

@Debradelai @REX Russia, China, the EU... they are all manifestations of the same enemy. The enemy is the belief that government should control its citizens rather than the other way around. And they believe that as fervently as we believe in God; it is their false idol.

@Debradelai @REX If I were to wargame this a bit, I think the emerging alliances would look this way:On one side it would be EU, China, Russia, Iran (and its proxies), Turkey, perhaps joined by a combination of Pakistan, Qatar, Venezuela, Algeria (energy will still be a major factor in international relations)On the other side it would be US, UK, India, Japan, South Korea, Israel, UAE, Saudi Arabia and a few others.

@Debradelai @REX I believe the push for Indonesia, Morocco and a few other Muslim countries to recognize Israel is part of the emerging battlefield between the blocs. SE Asia, Taiwan, Korea and even Latin America and Africa might be flashpoints in the near future.

@Debradelai @REX Trump warned Merkel about being dependent upon Russia for energy. It seems Merkel is still an East German Commie mentally. Nord Stream 2 brags about the alliance it has w/Europe. The EU even wants a military. Why? It has NATO.https://www.nord-stream2.com/nord-stream-2-is-a-european-collaboration/

@seeker @Debradelai @REX Let me tell you from a German perspective: we are already in a mess for as many years as Merkel runs the country, abolishes our constitution and all with the help of our so called "conservative" party - it is just disgusting.

@lolajl @Wow @Debradelai @REX @barrsniffsatjejuneanalysis Elections are this year in Sep.She announced, not to run any more. But as Germany has nothing like primaries, its up to party leadership to decide, who will be running. Normally the head of the CDU would be the one. But Kramp-Karrenbauer (her favorite) gave up and now on jan 15 a virtual party congress will decide about a new party head. The other contender is the Bavarian MP and of course the greens want to win the elections also.

@lolajl @Wow She is now defense minister and I think she gave up because the job is too big for her. All european countries with a non-presidential system have more and more difficulties forming coalitions. In this line, it will be very difficult for germany to form a working government after the election.Reason for this is, peoples voices are not heard and new parties emerge. On top they all decided against Trump and will have major struggles to position themselves.Startig jan 15 (haha)

@seeker @lolajl yes, and only the party decides who the put on the voting list and on what place, so there is no choice for people to vote for anyone who is not on the list, either on top or bottom, only the party decides - that is the fault in the German democracy
