       @aearil @amaranthe I think it's for stuff where you can have multiple kind of signals on one plug, Apple has been doing it for 10+ years with their hardware multimedia players.Pinephone also sort of has that but you need to toggle a switch to get UART instead of Audio.

       @lanodan Oh, I understood your message as trying to output analog audio via the USB port, which, as far as I know is not possible without active circuitry in the cable.It makes sense that the jack output would be more flexible

       @aearil Yeah you would get digital noise that would not even render properly (sound synth be annoying like that).A bit like feeding data to aplay or /dev/audio.
