Here's something I didn't expect to work at all, but mostly does... #trisquel 9 without any non-free stuff added, running on a 2017 iMac.No onboard sound, wifi, or bluetooth. Other than that it works.

Stretching things a bit now.... a 5.10.4 kernel and only the non-free Intel Wi-Fi firmware added makes the MacBook 12” workable under #trisquel 9. Sound is headphone jack only. Why do this? Every now and again I like to see how close to fully free software I can get on the computers I have, and Trisquel being Ubuntu 1804 derived is slightly more convenient for me than Debian without non-free.

@dctrud Have you checked the speaker volume in alsamixer? WiFi is no surprise, but typically sound should work in Trisquel unless this is a very new computer.

@chaosmonk @dctrud yup, I was going to suggest alsamixer check, too. These results so far don't surprise me. The kernel is pretty robust these days.

@klaatu @chaosmonk I’ve looked into it in depth before. The newer iMacs use a custom sound output setup with a multi channel amplifier. It’s not supported at all. Doesn’t bother me though as I have a USB audio dongle that runs sound into a stereo, so I do have sound.
