Verified accounts could work in a local context, especially considering we use usernames and not display names everywhere. Each instance could set its own criteria for getting verified or disable this. Not sure if I will proceed, what do you think?#pixeldev

@imattau anyone could create a key and verify their own pixelfed. Even "worse", this would favor technically inclined people. I don't think "verified with Keyoxide" would be a great criteria.I'll go even further: I like the fediverse because it doesn't try to be what the proprietary social networks are. All are equal. Adding account verification would bring back having "classes" of users. My 2 cents.@dansup

@dansup How about a more complex approach where each account can verify another account (maybe even cryptographic) so you can *see* which other accounts think an account is trustworthy/authentic. Like if you know someone who knows someone you can be sure its *really* them.That would be far more useful than having a verification from the instance owner!
