Trying to get files off of my Wahoo Elemnt bolt using MTP on Ubuntu. mtp-connect doesn’t find any devices. It requires a USB cable capable of data transfer. Apparently out of the dozens of USB cables I have none are capable of data. :blobthinking: Any tricks to identifying a data-capable USB cable? I found this https://superuser.com/questions/1269449/identifying-data-transfer-micro-usb-cables-vs-charge-only-micro-usb-cables

@pla many phones showed up a selection menu or a notification so you can choose if it should do charge, mtp or mass storage. That was short after connection, about two seconds, so much faster than waiting for mtp to connect. I don't know if this is still the case.In the end, when you found a data cable, you could test.#usb #smartphone

@hambach18 I connected my Pixel 4a phone and mtp-connect sees it. The Pixel 4a is USB C. The Wahoo Elemnt Bolt bike computer is micro USB. The DETHINTON USB cable is supposed to do data transfer so something else is not happening. I'll keep digging. Thanks for the tip.

@pla @hambach18 while it won't help a lot, mtp is kinda bad on Linux, I've had phones which didn't worked on one distro and worked on other without any problem

@kumicota Ah. I might try installing from PPA to get a new version. Thanks. :fingers_crossed: @hambach18

@kumicota @pla @hambach18 Eh, MTP barely worked on Windows in my experience so...

@milo Once I got the right USB cable it was pretty snappy mounting the disk and displaying files with Ubuntu 20.04. @kumicota @hambach18
