i like how we already had a word for "donut" in Norwegian, but we went right ahead and borrowed the American word when it was time to introduce American style donuts (large ones with icing) to Norway.the word is "smultring", which basically means lard ring because they used to fry them in lard in the old days.to the left is what everyone calls a smultring. to the right is what is now known as a donut, at least to marketing departments. i have yet to hear anyone call them that instead of, say, "stor smultring med glasur" (big donut with icing)...

@thor The smultring looks just like what we call an "old fashioned doughnut"

@Citizenzibb ah. definitely is a traditional food. often made at home for Christmas, but enjoyed with a cup of black coffee at other times of year, usually when inviting people home for coffee.

@Citizenzibb it's funny how you have to specify that it's old fashioned, whereas here, it's a plain one, and the others are "American" or such.
