@josias I was wondering, does any version of Debian rolls?

@redstarfish Testing and unstable roll. Unstable is where everything is thrown into, testing is where the packages go after a couple weeks or so, and during a Debian release testing becomes stable.

@redstarfish I did for many years. Then I had kids and didn't have time to fix random bugs anymore. Also I have become increasingly security-conscious and not being able to necessarily do unattended-upgrades in sid is an obstacle.Having said that - I greatly appreciate those of you that do have the ability to do this, because it increases quality for the rest of us!

@redstarfish That would be massively unwise. Even testing low key sucks to daily because breakage is random.

@StampedingLonghorn I didn't know Ubuntu has a unstable channel? Or do you mean Ubuntu as a Debian testing derivative?

@redstarfish I thought Ubuntu was based off of Debian unstable or testing channels.

@StampedingLonghorn So to answer your previous post:I was mainly asking about Debian because I was thinking of using Debian. I am aware that Ubuntu based derivatives as a option.. Let's see.

I am using Debian Unstable without systemd as my major OS.In fact, you will not encounter many problems as long as you do not use Gnome and KDE.( • ̀ω•́ )✧@redstarfish

@redstarfish @StampedingLonghorn there is also the backports repo, where builds of apps live which aren't in stable but doesn't add too much incompatibility with the essential packages of the stable repo.

@redstarfish I recommend to use testing as a base, and do an explicit install of unstable packages you want. With unstable as a daily driver you won't get happy.

@redstarfish If you're looking for a stable rolling distro, give #opensuse #tumbleweed a try. I've been using it on my work machine for many months and haven't come across any system problems. Altho, the automatic #btrfs snapshoting would probably quickly solve it anyway.
