@verita84 Yeah I've settled into Gab. The main site runs pretty well since the new CTO has been on it too.Rob Colbert is still doing everything else though, and it's the same old story. @verita84 Well, I'm not vouching for the practicality of the plan, that's why I called it a pipe dream. I've just expanding on what they want to do, a lot of people don't seem to understand what their goal is when they do seemingly bizarre things. You can't just move your channel off, it's more liable to shut down than a corporation, the psudeo-decentralization doesn't benefit it the same way it does text, but it has all the downsides. @verita84 They actually seem to be pretty smart about this. Only paying members can upload. If 10% of those users actually do, that's $600 per channel per year. I imagine the landscape of Gab TV will be mostly cat videos and QAnon podcasts with a few hundred views a piece. I'm already Pro because I bought their Trump Merch for Georgia as a joke, so it gives me a perfect avenue to upload shit that I've been looking for a home for anyway. @Moon

@verita84 Dread has some informative knowledge, but his conclusions, and the conclusions of a lot of FSE users like Blitz and Derek, are highly emotional, and should be taken with a grain of salt.Gab has had an amazing quarter, I get more engagement there than here by far. @amerika I wouldn't say it works like Mastodon anymore from the user end, except in a very basic sense. They've changed just about everything, made a lot of improvements, and screwed some things up badly. But has a genuinely unique feel. Plus they're bringing back a multi-column option! Wish someone who isn't me would run a Federating Blab server, I'd use it! @amerika Oh, yeah. It was impossible to find good users on there from Fedi back when they were here, because it was just an unfiltered onslaught of spam. On the native site you were supposed to use groups to find users, but the rest of Fedi didn't have access to that at all! Plus, various other smaller features that didn't work properly at the time, I gave the community a bad rapAfter they left Fedi, a lot of that went away overnight, plus they've added better discovery TL's @verita84 @Moon

And, a lot of them really weren't made from the perspective of a federated service at all, like the post edits. Plus there are no notifications. Telegram won't ban you for 1:1 chats so it's just as good. You can't reliably count engagement metrics, which means all the activity sorted stuff they've made have to go (or stay, but they'll be broken) You lose the ability to reliably edit or delete a post, which I really like having because my hands are retarded and don't look before posting no matter how oft I tell them to! @Rape @verita84 The audio quality was very good. Since it runs in-browser and you don't need to install anything I wanted to use it for teaching EFL.
