@isi @stux there's also the fact that the mastodon devs often dismiss feature requests that could actually benefit people (e.g. configurable character limit, and that's only the tip of the iceberg). and mastodon's backend isn't very efficient either.now, do i care which server runs which software? not really, that's up to the admin after all. i also don't think mastodon is entirely bad, or even "bad" at all. but let's just say there's a reason so many mastodon forks exist.

Generally speaking, in the #Mastodon community at large, if you’re not a leftist, you must be a #Nazi. In the minds of a large portion of the #Mastodon community, this justifies double standards and all sorts of heinous behavior (see, for instance, @Gargron’s refusal to ban users for issuing violent threats at @r000t), leading to a culture of “rules for thee and not for me”. When a large portion of the #Mastodon community has cast out right wing users in such a way, I think that the right wing hateful reaction to #Mastodon is, while not justified, certainly predictable.(Rest assured there are no hard feelings here, but I think it’d be relevant in this discussion to point out that ironically I myself found myself removed from your very instance lol: https://gameliberty.club/@realcaseyrollins/104436295732520467)Then consider that, since very few #Mastodon instances are built to protect the speech of users on the right as well users on the left (a great example is gameliberty.club), many users have chosen to join or create #Pleroma instances.From a software level, #Pleroma is undoubtedly the best backend to run a #Fediverse instance off of, due to being far more lightweight than #Mastodon (my favorite example: https://4w.pub/spinster-2-0-moving-from-mastodon-backend-to-pleroma/#migration) and supporting a plethora of alternate frontends, including #Mastodon, the rising and more user-friendly #Soapbox, #Bloat, and more. @Hyolobrika @stux Think it depends on what your motives are, Just an opinion from personal experience;feel as if Mastodon has a broader appeal, finding it way easier to explain to less-techy people to get them started in the fediverse,however would recommend Pleroma to the DIY crowd that needs cheaper solutions for hosting a private social server, and they wouldnt mind spending more time learning in advanced.

@realcaseyrollins @Hyolobrika @stux Lol, meant the community we're involved with that rebuilds/recycle computers, and pleroma seems to have supernaturally low system requirements, they have been able to run it on old desktops, as far as the software, wouldnt know much about it.
