Google down? No problem at all!๐ŸŽ‰ Since Google was snooping your data anyway it's time to get a new default search engine that does respects your privacy and has even better search results!https://stuxOS.com ๐Ÿ”

@stux no, a searx instance ain't a solution. look at https://stuxos.com/meow/preferencesthat's the sources that particular searx instance pulls. you'll notice google is one of them. searx has a place in this world, but it's doesn't have it's own search index so it doesn't solve anything. at all.

@katie Is does have to! ๐Ÿ˜„ The searx script strips all privacy touching stuff from the search so you still can use the most popular results but without all privacy hassle โค๏ธ

@methyltheobromine @stux Exactly. Stux is right about the privacy-aspect, Searx is fine in that regard. But if Google & Bing and big tech decides they won't show you a site because they don't like that then it won't show up in Searx because it's just a proxy without it's own index.

@stux @methyltheobromine Dude, I've been running two Searx instances for YEARS so I know how it works. I also know that your IP gets banned if your instance gets too much traffic, mine stopped showing results from Google, Bing and Yandex years ago.

@methyltheobromine @stux It solves something: privacy. So it's a start. I agree it doesn't help much.Searx also solves the problem of easily mixing results from different sources into one list of search results. Check this out:https://yacy.everdot.org/That page is EXTREMELY slow, you'll understand why if you type something into that searx instance and look at the default sources used. That particular instance does solve censorship, kind of, except it's a bit useless.
