Listening to Wardruna and wanting to make a stab at the Viking gothic fantasy werewolf book.I’m gonna need a lot of Norse rock that isn’t tainted with white supremacy, methinks.

@lilithsaintcrow does it have to be viking/norse influenced or can it be anything from the nordic countries?

@kemonine It’s for a Viking book. It needs to be Viking-flavored, at least.

@lilithsaintcrow Amon Amarth sing a lot about vikings and don't seem to be white supremacists, but I could be wrong. There really needs to be a website that tells you the political affiliations of metal bands.

@thegibson I’ll look it up. I love Trent Reznor as a human being but some of his stuff is hit or miss for me. @kemonine

@lilithsaintcrow Tyr and Ensiferum also seem to not be assholes. It's hard to find concrete information on where some bands stand, unless they are really outspoken about it. A lot of criticism of supposed promotion of far right ideology seems to be people who get paid to complain about stuff going for easy targets.

@machado @lilithsaintcrow All of Black metal is worse-than-Nazi, meaning more Nietzschean. There are some exceptions, like Enslaved, which were more just pure Odinists.Seriously, what most Black and Death Metal bands think about humanity would offend and appall the Nazis.

@amerika Most of Black Metal are just people who like the Silmarilion too much. And a handful of nazis, tankies, ethnostatists, etc. And Death Metal is mostly environmentalists. Aesthetics don't represent actual beliefs.Although solo BM projects, like Burzum, tend to be disproportionately the realm of nutjobs.

@machado Not true at all. The genre of Black Metal was founded on anti-humanism (although Tolkien was a big influence, specifically through Burzum and the Norwegians). There are no Communists in black metal, only pretenders. As far as Death Metal having a huge overlap with environmentalists, no doubt... it was huge. But so were antihumanism, amoralism, nihilism, and a general desire for a human purge.Just look at the earliest proto-death metal like Hellhammer, Sodom, Bathory, Sepultura, Master, Possessed, and Slayer. For Black Metal, we should start with the point where it actually became a recognizable genre, the Nords: Immortal, Emperor, Gorgoroth, Burzum, Darkthrone, Enslaved, Mayhem. Not a bunch of humanists, at all.
