@Gina printer manuf. have no shame. HP is probably just upset they didn’t think of this before. CUPS and SANE, while very imperfect, are also so good when dealing with trash like this.

@Gina Fujitsu offers a device calles scansnap (or was it snap scan?) Anyway it is a very fast and good scanner desgined for offices, however only scans directly to cloud services. No smb or anything else possible....Because who would need that in an office environment...

@Gina I have a 15YO HP printer, thankfully with no account BS. But I always keep a mallet next to it just in case it makes a noise I don't recognise. Always better to be safe rather than sorry.

@Gina ughhh. HP are the worst. Several weeks of not being able to print for me, as a firmware update locked out the non-HP cartridges I have. The genuine ones (902) are out of stock everywhere for weeks, due to work from home demand, even direct from HP. Printer is currently a useless lump :-(

@GinaSeems like more and more (smart) devices are going this route. It's a bit worrying that one can't just buy a product today and expect it to work without a proprietary app and account. Most people don't seem to care either.
