I've used Gitlab pages for a while to build my blogs. The problem I had with it was the long and confusing Terms of Service, Content Policy and so on. Gitlab could delete my blog any time, for any reason. Then I moved to Medium. I thought using Medium was going to get my blog posts to reach wider audiences. They have very strict rules but I haven't heard of many people being banned. Although, their platform is atrocious, riddled with analytics and JavaScript bloat. Some of my blog posts still remain on there. My next move is to move to something like https://write.as or https://imprint.to which won't delete accounts for no reason, have relaxed rules and good privacy. I will probably be using #writeas. Hopefully in the future I won't have to rely on these platforms, and host a blog on my own.

@nommon Not sure if you know this but QOTO has a free gitlab instance (provides free ultimate license to everyone on it, normally 100$ per month per user).. you would be welcome to use it for your pages and it doesnt have the confusing ToS that gitlab itself has. We have yet to ban anyone from our server.

@freemo It’d be cool if you could get Plume or Write on QOTO.

@nommon I’ve consiodered it in the past but plume was a bit immature back then. I suspect it may have matured since then and may be worth a second attempt. Though adding new services is a bit of work if they arent already containerized and at the time it wasnt. If that has been done as well then it may be much easier now.

@nommon at the time writeas was an obvious choice since plume just wasnt mature enough yet.. ill need to reexplore plume though to see if it is looking any better

@nommon I havent even started on this, I will have some responsibilities in the short term and wont be able to look into it until I get tot he next server update which is when I tend to look into improving the services as well.
