I wrote an article of my experience working as a bagger, and how treating people like shit is a good way to turn them against you: https://bnolet.me/posts/2020/12/counterproductive-measures/

@brandon I know your feeling. I pulled a 3rd shift at a grocery store (stocking crew) for 3 years. It was honestly one of the shittiest 3 years of my life. I (no lie) rather stick my pecker in an electrical outlet than go into work. The job gave me something to do and kept me productive, but man I hated it. Probably the only job I actually hated.

@brandon That must have felt like complete shit. There's no asshole worse than a self-absorbed asshole who treats people like they are beneath them, or is so miserable the only joy they have in life is shitting on someone they think is beneath them.I look at it this way:I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers. - Khalil Gibran

@jordan31 Funny enough, the only low-wage job that I really enjoyed was my night shift stockboy job :P Then again, we were able to play our own music on the grocery store loudspeaker 🤷 The second time I did night shift though, I just didn't have the spoons for it anymore. So I definitely hated working at Tim Horton's, especially because it was Tim Horton's

@Citizenzibb The problem is it wasn't one person, it was simply the entire structure of administration there. All the managers are fed the same BS about workers being lazy and taking advantage and act mean and bossy just to get people "motivated"It's not exclusive to this store either, I've worked at a few places where they treat people like children: All low-wage places.

@brandon @Citizenzibb Everywhere I have worked, the problem has been mostly the workers, and only secondarily, bad management (usually workers promoted above their station).

@brandon It is like that in damn near every field. They just are more adept at disguising their bad and often illegal behavior and actions in some fields. The same assholes who do this to people are the first ones to violate labor laws and social norms. It is officially sanctioned workplace harassment, and there is very little you can do about it except leave (if you can afford it) or sue, and good luck with that.

@brandon thanks for sharing, brought back memories of working at best buy a little bit, practically getting shaken down after every closing shift.

@Citizenzibb it doesn't feel like that at my current employer, nor at my previous job working IT for a hospital network

@brandon I can't remember if it was a real pat down or just like a self pat down and turning out the pockets type deal, but either way, felt super trusted...
