My latest #ORIC related acquisitions…First a Philips D6260 cassette deck. Belt broke when testing but that's expected, and pause key won't work but I'll be handling that. The two holes on the side seems like made by a soldering iron, probably to pass wires. I believe I can fix that with the hot air gun, maybe I'll try.#RetroComputing

Then, a very cute Manesth B&W 4.5" CRT. Only has an antenna input but I'll see if I can mod it to take composite.I was a bit afraid but the seller did pack it very well and it arrived in perfect condition. The power brick outputs quite more than 12V, I'll have to check the waveform, but I'll probably won't be using it anyway.#ORIC #RetroComputing

The red isn't exactly the #ORIC one, but then it's very specific, anyway they both look great, which is the primary intent anyway. It works with a separate modulator, not really with the internal one but its weird anyway.#RetroComputing

Started fixing pieces on the Philips D6260:- the pause key : added some plastic tip back. UHU plast didn't stick, it's probably PP. Cyanoacrylate seems to hold though. Tomorrow I'll add a piece on each side to reinforce as there's enough room.#ORIC

…- missing foot : I cut some part inside the battery compartment, it was already hollow, so it won't be missed. 😄 Heat gun didn't work, it only softened both part but they don't stick. I didn't want to risk burning them, so I just used UHU Plast and it seems to work fine.Well enough for me.

Well, still not perfect.I wonder if the signal is what is expected by the board though, maybe it would need some amplification…AD724 vs K2912…Maybe it needs higher DC level…The uPC1379C wants 1.5V peek-peek but that's for sync, and sync actually looks quite correct anyway.poke @jelora @tavernejohnjohn

Signal is much better with proper cables than with dangling wires…It fits really well (I moved the blue cap a little by resoldering lts leg), and there's a hole on the PCB, so I added pin as anchor. I could solder it maybe as it has a ground pad, but I'll probably just put some stuff around to hold the thing.

The Jasmin 2 drive needed less attention. No belt either.I ended up booting correctly quite reliably…

But!I had to bent the part that clips the center hole of the disc to the motor axis though, else it didn't always turn, and the spring didn't have any setting. Just two screws and about 1mm of margin for alignment. Tried putting some plastic under it but it didn't help. So I did have to bent the thing.

Also, the controller board has 2 7805 regulators, one for the drive and one for the controller itself, the later being at 4.9V, so either the regulator is aging or something takes too much on it.I tried using a PC PSU instead, seems to help a bit. I should probably replace the big 1000µF cap first.Accessing the drive creates a lot of parasites visible on the screen, but I remember it being so already 25 years ago, so maybe it's just bad design, or some components were already bad back then.

Oh, and I just received the replacement gears for the Philips D6260 cassette decks! They are supposedly made from polyurethane, and look really nice, just some bubbles on one side, so I suppose they were cast in some silicone mold or something.

The first Philips D6260 finally received his new gear! Now it'd just need new belts. It works fine but they are old, so…#ORIC

The second D6260 really needs a good cleanup due to leaked batteries…Changed the grease, replaced the broken gear…

After a lot of WD40, rubbing with a toothbrush and other tools, a lot of WD40… a good bath!

And now it's dry, let's put it all back.As with the first one, I'll probably change the belt soon.I left out the middle contact for the batteries, it's very corroded and still taking a vinegar bath, but I'll probably replace it with a bent paperclip anyway.Aren't they beautiful?

@lanodan @thatbrickster as a contact cleaner, or to keep moisture away…What's wrong with it?

@mmu_man Given enough time, regular WD-40 enables corrosion. Things like motherboards would be beyond repair. The WD-40 Company do have a contact cleaner formulation on the market.@lanodan

@thatbrickster @lanodan do you mean it would cause it or just not prevent after a while because it dries off?

@mmu_man I believe WD-40 would accelerate it although I can't say for certain. I didn't see anything that suggested it helped, definitely something that should be more widespread.@lanodan

@mmu_man Hearing from the experiences of my dad, who used to fix photocopiers for over two decades, WD-40 can do a number on the plastic panels if not dealt with. I remember reading one time not to apply it on a satellite dish as it makes it rust.@lanodan

Second attempt at fixing the pause key on the first D6260… looks like I was a bit too hard on it yesterday so it broke. Hot air gun at 160°C and some more plastic, but you need to be careful not to burn it.Works again, for now.

Ok the rusted battery contact for the second Philips D6260 still kinda conducts but doesn't look good at all now.Let's make a replacement with this large paper clip!

It's not like I'll really use this thing with batteries anyway but well. The other contact was a bit rusted but I'll leave it there as replacing it would mean desoldering.Added a little sticker to remember what I did on this device.
