so what do y'all think about the 'rona vaccinesi've been hearing that this "mrna" tech they're using shouldn't even be called a "vaccine" at all because it's a completely different kind of process, and also all sorts of scary shit about side effects, like that it affects our germline in permanent ways or something like thati know only enough about biology to have a very basic understanding of pharmacology, i.e. practically nothing about genetics and cellular mechanics, so i have no idea what to make of any of this. a very smart friend i trust a lot tho was sounding the alarm about coronavirus vaccines months ago, so i'm guessing there's probably something to this

@velartrill I don't trust any of the American-made vaccines, especially with the mrna process. I'd be open to taking CoronaVac in a few years though. I don't think vaccines should really be pushed for anybody except those at very high risk like those with weakened respiratory systems, other immune issues, and the elderly. The toilet paper esque desperate grab for vaccines by the American population is going to be wild.

@velartrill its up in the air.given that its a rush job and something not ever put in production before, i suspect there will be unforeseen problems with the messenger RNA based vaccines, likely caused by flaws in the production process.however, there are traditional vaccines that are coming out as well, such as the Moderna one, though.

@kaniini i think we have our own; haven't heard much about it (if i had to take a vaccine, i'd rather go with the russian or chinese ones) but as long as it's not Made In America that's something

@velartrill yeah, i have low confidence in the US vaccines given that they went "high tech" with them.

@kaniini @velartrill hmm, as far as I know the Moderna vaccine is built on mRNA; do they have a second one?

@ninjawedding @velartrill from what i’ve read the moderna one is traditional and the pfizer one is mRNA. could have it backwards though, admittedly.
