I'm stoked that the next Pinephone Community edition will be Plasma Mobile. Hopefully that gives the UI development a boost and gets it close to daily driver quality a bit faster.

New SoC has been chosen for the next generation of #PINE64 SBCs, the Rockchip RK3566 and it sounds like a very nice choice. Lots of IO built in and up to 8GB RAM! Oh and even has a built in eink interface :-O.

Looks like some really good progress is being made on the Pinetime. While I would prefer a transflective display I think the Pinetime could be my best option in the future once all my pebbles stop working.

I have yet to install my Pinephone mainboard upgrade. I still haven't really settled on an OS that I'm happy with using full time yet so I'm just swapping every so often and testing things out. One evening soon I'll carve out some time to do the transplant and apply my glass screen protector.

What I need is a glass screen protector for this Pinetab. There aren't any for it specifically that I know of so I may try to find one for a different tablet that has dimensions close enough to the Pinetab.

@kelbot what's your favourite brand? I use anti-fingerprint screens usually from Brotect whose name I despise but whose hardware has really held up for me through the years. Some stores have custom cut screen protection but that's never been worth it for me.

@rav3ndust My grey Time Steel is my everyday watch as well and still works perfectly. I have multiple others as well but the Time Steel is the best model IMO. Best battery life, super solid all metal construction. I'm thinking about picking up a silver one as a backup for when my original one eventually has issues.

@kelbot I agree. I’ve had the OG Pebble, the Time Round, and the Time Steel, and the Time Steel is still working just as well as the day I bought it. Love multiple days of battery life, a good buddy of mine with an Apple Watch was charging it every night while my Pebble lasts often 4 days+ on a single charge.

@crodges Yeah, plasma mobile is the UI I like best of the available options for the Pinephone but it needs more work still to be mature and stable. The camera is getting there. Some of the photos I've seen from one of the devs working on it are definitely acceptable. Will be a very big step once all that work makes it into a stable camera app.

@rav3ndust I have OG x2, OG Steel x2, Time Steel, Time Round x2, Time 2 HR. My Time Steel still lasts around 5-6 days per charge easy. With a few tweaks I have my Time Round lasting 2 sometimes 2.5 days per charge. I like the round form factor I just wish they had made it a little bit thicker to accomodate a larger battery on par with the rest of the lineup.

@kelbot I believe that sometime ago smartphones in general already achieved a good enough state. So, if we can get a working phone with build quality from 2016-2017, good camera and all free software we are used too, that would be the day.

@FiXato Since #PINE64 sells all the spare parts I wonder how much it would cost to buy the everything but the mainboard and put together a second Pinephone with it... :thinkhappy:

@FiXato Of course if I wanted a second Pinephone the smarter thing would have been to just buy one of the newer ones, haha. But in the interest of not being wasteful and throwing out a perfectly good mainboard it might be worth it and passing it on to someone that wants it.

@kelbot @FiXato that's including everything to end up with another functional smartphone - if you plan on running it headless you can probably save a significant portion of that amount (leave off touchscreen, two cameras, etc)

@djsundog @FiXato I guess all you'd really need for running it headless is the USB-C board. Then you could just use a usb dock with it and have everything you need.

@kemonine Battery? This is just for their SBCs. An ereader or other battery powered device based on that chipset is hypothetical or would be a DIY job.
