@Lonestar Oh my goodness. My mouth has been watering for a good ole tamale ever since 1982 when I moved away from a 5-year sojourn in Arizona. Those look deliciously homemade.I'm green with envy.Enjoy!!

@Lonestar OMG beautiful! The lunch ladies at my kids' school in TX used to make those for the kiddos, and mine would come home begging me to make them too. I never could get the hang of it.

@OlgaPetrina - It's HARD.Our daughter and SIL had a friend's mom over to 'teach' them how they're made. She put on a 3 hour 'clinic' on tamale making.A while later, they attempted to put their training to use and make their own batch. It did not go well! And these are bright, talented people who are amazing cooks in their own right.

@Lonestar And unlike poorly made cupcakes, the rejects aren't really what you want to eat. ...

@Lonestar When we retire, we are scootin' back to TX as fast as we can. Just need to choose our destination. Currently in the running: areas west of Waco.

@Lonestar We're looking for relatively small (less than 30,000), friendly, and not too close to any big city.

@OlgaPetrina Valley Mills is roughly in your target area. Might be a tad small, though.

@Lonestar That is exactly the area we've been looking at. Plan is to take a couple of vacations in the area to scope things out and then begin the search in earnest after we've narrowed it down.
