       @paleobiologistYou could try https://www.minetest.net instead. It's sort of a FOSS game engine for making Minecraft-like games and it comes with an example game which is kept rather simple.Most people would want to mod it or play a modpack (i.e. a different game made with the Minetest engine), but if you enjoy simplicity, it's quite fine for that.You can also get mods which show you the recipes in-game, if you don't want to discover or look them up on your own...@brandon
