@DoctorDee Oh god, I don’t know who any of these are! My TV knowledge has a sort of 1990 limit. Is that Zoe Wannamaker?

@MandyJane @Nora She’s such a great character—and she’s on one of the few shows that have LOTS of women being women in LOTS of different ways. I also love Bobbie the space marine, but even thinking about her wears me out.

@MandyJane @DoctorDee Clearly I haven’t watched enough TV with strong female characters, hence most of mine are male/not human.

@DoctorDee Ren Höek (Ren & Stimpy), Boober Fraggle (Fraggle Rock), Snufkin (Moomins) and Miss Jones (Rising Damp). Only Snufkin is aspirational, the rest are brutally honest. Will look into the Expanse…

@Chronic-Yonic Ha ha, Wyle E Coyote is a great call- I’d love to be more Wyle E— sadly I think I’m Yosemite Sam.

@Nora If you haven’t seen Britannia you should check it out—maybe not exactly a beacon of feminism but David Morrissey as the Roman general is hilarious.

@DoctorDee I don’t think I could cope with it- those revisionist pseudo-historical fantasies bring me out in absolute hives. My ex used to watch all that stuff and I’d be sitting there going UGHHGHH FIRST OF ALL SHE WOULDN’T HAVE WORN HER HAIR DOWN AND HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ILLITERATE AND THEY WOULD NOT HAVE HAD COW’S LEATHER SHOES etc. To the extent I was banned from the room when he was watching them.

@HebrideanHecate @DoctorDee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=74bRnBo1c14 “Peter Stringfellow’s Lord of the Rings” pretty much sums up my feelings about that genre.

@Nora @DoctorDee and this is why there is a talk before we watch any historical movie that touches on my boyfriend’a area if expertise - “I do not care if they are using a canon developed two years after this battle, or if the battle took place five miles up river on the previous or if the uniform is closer to blue than purple…this is for enjoyment!” And he has the same talk with me about my “BUT THAT WASN’T IN THE BOOK!” outbursts.

@Mafalda @DoctorDee It’s not so much historical inaccuracy that bothers me as triteness and sensationalism in general- I find all the pseudo-historical stuff really stylistically boring- but it’s especially annoying when there is interesting history being razed over. Having said that, though, I admittedly have not watched more than 10 minutes of Britannia. I could attempt another 10 minutes.
