Silicon Valley has a monopoly on the web. But everyone of us can make a difference by choosing privacy-friendly alternatives. Here are some ideas:✅ Tutanota email & calendar✅ Firefox browser✅ DuckDuckGo search✅ OpenStreetMap✅ MastodonWhat are your favorites on the web?https://www.cnbc.com/2020/10/06/house-democrats-say-facebook-amazon-alphabet-apple-enjoy-monopoly-power.html

@Tutanota I don't like Firefox because of what Mozilla has done to them (https://digdeeper.neocities.org/ghost/mozilla.html), so I'm using Iridium Browser (it only requires disabling Google SafeBrowsing before connecting to the network for zero spyware: https://spyware.neocities.org/guides/iridium.html), DuckDuckGo is probably fine, but I use Random Searx (https://searx.neocities.org), and Pleroma (https://pleroma.social) can be a good replacement for Mastodon, it depends

@BlackWinnerYoshi @Tutanota I was about to say the same thing about firefox. I shouldn't have to go into 25 or more settings to harden the damn thing. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try iridium today.

@bazurk @BlackWinnerYoshi @Tutanota iridium is typically far behind on chromium security updates though, proceed with caution.

@bazurk @BlackWinnerYoshi @Tutanota https://privacytools.io/browsers/#browser completely depends on the platform, user , and scenario.

@blacklight447 @bazurk @Tutanota a better thing to do is to probably degoogle Chrome, but I'm not sure how I can do that (i.e. what settings I need to change, and to what exactly)

@bazurk @blacklight447 @BlackWinnerYoshi @Tutanota Why not try GNOME Web, then? It seems to be getting better and better. More importantly, it isn't based on Chromium. While I can understand why some people may not want to use Firefox, I don't think using Chromium and it's derivatives are an ideal solution. While Mozilla may have its flaws, I doubt Google fares any better.
