it would be nice if we had a cryptocurrency that didn't require keeping terabytes of old transaction history in order to function securely...

I would absolutely love to see some sort of efficient cryptocurrency mechanism being used for allocating funding to open source projects

it'd be awesome to live in a world where we had projects which were kept locked away and proprietary, until a specific and predetermined quota of donations are pulled in, at which point it's released as open source, to everyone, forever.something like this would be great for promoting open source tech while allowing full-time open source devs to put food on the table.

@katp32 I don’t think that’s possible, but only because of the assumption that the projects have to be locked away and proprietary in the first place. They’ll always find an excuse to cling to that power if you grant it to them. Minecraft should’ve been fully open source a decade ago, and Mickey Mouse should have been public domain in the 1940’s. Thing is, research and development has no guarantee of success, and it’s terrible when it gets locked away, so private research is just a massively stupid idea. I want to see projects that are open and free, which people figure out ways to use to make money over time.
