The mystery object is a collapsable, wood fuel, camping stove. One puts leaves, sticks and any other combustable materials in the large hole, and then light the stove. Pans or kettles (billy cans) then sit on top. I'm told they can produce a lot of heat.I intend to take a small amount of kindling with me on camping trips, and then collect some more fuel at my campsite.I intend to make a video of the device in operation. Watch this space.

@sajith I remember you were leaving your previous location, but I had missed the news that you moved to Canada. Is it working out?Video showing the stove in operation, coming soon. It might not be in a field, but will be outside. πŸ˜‰

Well, my experience with the Zebra billy can hasn't got off to a good start. That Zebra label has been superglued on, I can't remove it easily. Soaking in water hasn't helped. I'm now attacking it with solvent.Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I shot the video, in one take. I've got to drink the resulting coffee, and do a bit of video post-processing. A voice-over will also be required. Then I'll need to upload.See you in a couple of hours.

@crossgolf_rebel I use video editors only once or twice per year. When I return to kdenlive I find I have forgotten how to use it. On the other hand, with Openshot I am able to be productive immediately.Different programs for different users.

@Jkp Take a look, by all means, but I've discovered quite a few problems with Openshot.Video editing is guaranteed to raise your blood pressure, and drive you to frustration. @crossgolf_rebel

This isn't working out well. There are lots of things I find frustrating with Openshot. Firstly, I can't find a way to position clips by entering the time, it seems it has to be done by dragging them using the mouse (trackpad).Secondly, one of the features I really wanted to use, varying the video speed, doesn't seem to work. Instead of 2x or 4x speed, the video freezes then jumps to a new position in the timeline. Grrr! Two hours was wildly optimistic.

@fitheach DaVinci Resolve is free, easily covers the features you want and is fairly usable. Available on Mac/Win/Lin.

@fitheach Compared to the US, I am now more free to choose work of my liking, so, yes, it is working out!I am in Toronto. I dislike big sprawling cities, and my perception of Canada may have been colored by the pandemic, so there's that too.

@fitheach I guess I don't dislike all cities. I am in Quebec City as we speak. This is a very lovely city!Great architecture, great natural surroundings. Life here seems to be unhurried, although that may be because of the plague and end of the tourist season. People here are friendly, unlike grumpy uppity Toronto people. I wish I was fluent in French.
