wanna get into a new hobby that involves me going outside. I really enjoyed cycling, but I've learned that my bike is a good bit too tall for me, and it makes riding (and stopping) very awkward. the seat post is also completely stuck, so I can't even adjust the seat height to fix that.I'd look into repairing it, but it's a pretty old bike, and I'm not sure how much fixing something like this would cost.

@bumbervevo With Covid, it may not be the best of ideas, but Geocaching is really cool.Makes you walk and go places you would never have thought of.

@ghil I did geocaching a few times in the past! it's really fun to do with friends. most of my friends hate physical activity though lol

kinda thinking about getting into longboarding or rollerblading. I wouldn't be able to go as far as I would with a bike, but it'd still be fun to ride around. cycling is pretty expensive and I don't really want to drop +$600 on a new bike.

skate/long/penny/etc. boards look really fun because it seems like there's a lot of customization options. (of course that's possible with bicycles as well, but yknow, money.)

@bumbervevo Have you tried spraying some WD-40 on it? It should come loose eventually.

@jiminycricket that sounds pretty fun! and very cheap to get into, as well. making your own hacky sacks sounds really fun too!

@AppleStrudelMan I've tried a special WD-40 penetrating oil as well as another penetrating oil. Tried applying it over several days, giving the post a good bang with a hammer, twisting and turning in every way I could think of, and it hasn't budged. the bike is very old and I bought it secondhand, so I have no idea how long it's been like this. there's a trick I've heard of where you pour boiling water over the post that I haven't tried yet... might need to give that a shot soon.

@bumbervevo @AppleStrudelMan Make sure it's kept in a cool-ish place beforehand, to maximise the effect. You want the outer metal to expand before the inner metal.Though make sure you don't accidentally shatter the metal. That'd be sad.

@tsalvgi it looks like a LOT of fun. as someone who hasnt been on any board for more than 10 minutes, I wouldn't know where to start with customization since I wouldn't know what to look for.

@bumbervevo personally it’s been a while since I’ve actually made one, so brands aren’t something i could point you to, but there are three basic concepts you could build for (two extremes and an in-between): focus on high speed downhill or street maneuverability. Things like wheel shape, wheel size, wheel hardness, board length and flexibility will sort of fine-tune the board for each one. Some videos online or speaking with someone at a board shop that has parts for sale should be able to help
