Sent my dear friend home with his family Saturday. Came to stay with me early in the pandemic from fear of urban environment where he was staying. Came home from work Thursday morning to find him in the floor deceased. A wonderful, brilliant man; he hadn't the strength and willingness to beat addiction. I'm devastated. Please say a prayer for his family. Miss you Randy. Thank you all.

@Ballerina (1)You spotted it Ballerina. I send this as a thank you to all who expressed concern. He was more of an acquaintance when he came here. I developed a family love for him before I saw his problem. I was just a fence post on the side of the road in his travels. He paused to lean there and find rest at the end of his journey. God allowed me to be of service not because of who I am, but in spite of.....

@Ballerina (2) Having lost everything I worked a lifetime for to a loved one's addiction, I was able to see the kind heart and sensitive spirit of my friend. A man can gain the world and lose his soul. God gives us one thing we can take to heaven with us, our children. The rest stays here. I was hardened and prepared for this time and still able to see him before frustration at his problem made me throw him out...

@Ballerina (3) Without going into detail, the pieces that had to fall into place are mathematically impossible to be chance. He had estranged his family and all his friends. I could still see him just as I still see the woman I love. I'm just happy to have been placed here to play a small part. I'm convinced my friend is finally at peace. A lesser soul would not have had the torment he carried from losing a friend on the river at 17...

@Ballerina (4) It was a privilege to provide a place of comfort and safety at the end of his journey. Any good thing that came from this is from a higher authority, any mistakes are my own. I learned much from him about music, travels, and philosophy. I was never intimidated by his outbursts. This old post was hardened, driven into the ground on the side of the road and left there. My friend paused, rested and applied a coat of paint. I'm better for having known him. God bless
